The word lead originates from the Anglo-Saxon word “laed” which means to “show the way”. The essence of leadership therefore means to be a pathfinder – a person who shows the way to others, stepping away from current thinking of leaders as “influence” towards a more bold stance of positive impact.

A pathfinder is a mastermind, conceiver, originator – someone who creates new things – someone who can find paths through unexplored territory.

In our history these were the people who opened up new value in society, be it in innovative new forms of art, thinking or business models. Coco Chanel and Grace Hopper are examples of pathfinders. MaRi Eagar
